Beaumont, Translator. How does the ecclesiology of communion go back to the very sources of the great ecclesial tradition? How should we explain that a Christian is never alone, even before God?
How should we perceive that the Church is a communion before being a society, a mystery before being a structure? These questions reflect the inner being of the Church that is at the center of Flesh of the Church, Flesh of Christ. The late renowned scholar J.
Tillard defines what the flesh of the Church is for the New Testament and the period of the undivided Church.
What does it mean that Jesus was made in the likeness of sinful flesh?
Christ "came not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood" 1John John believes that Jesus will be manifested again at his second coming 1John However, he will then be manifested not as he was on earth, but as he now is in glory. He has "not yet been revealed" but we are assured that "we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is" 1John cf The reason people would deny that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, is that they believe the flesh to be corrupt.
The idea that flesh is evil has serious ramifications. Gordon argues convincingly that the Son's existence beyond the pale of his flesh is not a bizarre appendix to Christology but an essential part of its conceptual grammar, and one that is more deeply biblical that many theologians have realized.

Description The Holy One in Our Midst: An Essay on the Flesh of Christ aims to defend the doctrine of the extra Calvinisticum —the doctrine that maintains the Son of God was not restricted to the flesh of Christ during the incarnation—by arguing that it is logically coherent, biblically warranted, catholically orthodox, and theologically useful.
